Downtowner Gallery

Enjoy an exhibit that takes you to places far and wide, and real and imaginary, on view through May 3, 2024, in the Downtowner Gallery.

What would your artistic passpoort look like? How do you map out a memory? Where are we going on our trip? How about we take a trip into another decade?

Travel through time and memories, blast into space, bicycle with friends to places that are part real and part fantasy, voyage under water and through nature, and see the results of artists’ creative and personal expeditions, among many other ways the notion of traveling is depicted.

Artist Spotlight

Putting the spotlight on fused glass art, Jacqueline Myers’  “Basic Black and White” collection spans two display cases in the Downtowner Gallery. With small figures, plates, and other items made employing fused glass techniques, these playful pieces make for beautiful art gifts. The artist’s works will be on view and available for purchase in the Downtowner Gallery through May 3, 2024.

“The efficacy of patterns has been proven millions of times. Black and Whites are one of the most sought-after resources for designers of all kinds because it is basic but jazzy, a little stark but familiar, is classic but can be hip at the same time, interesting, and pleasing to the eye. In some worlds, it is even an indication of intrigue or danger!”

My name is Jacqueline Myers. I’m slightly obsessed with fused glass. I’m new to the glass art world and I credit the Pflugerville Public Library with the introduction. This art form speaks to me, I don’t know where it has been all my life, but I found it now, and I love it! It’s been the best blind date ever!!! I found I liked working with glass so much I pursued formal training with local glass studios to expand my experience.
I am blessed with a wealth of creative influences throughout my family. There are and have been cobblers; jewelers; welders; leather and silversmiths; photographers; chefs; fashion designers, tailors, and seamstresses; potters; painters; landscapers and farmers; musicians; poets; and writers. I’m inspired by and believe I benefit from all of them. I’m attracted to color, texture, and light in all forms, and fusing glass offers all of that! I try to capture and display expressions of everyday life experiences, people, places, and things through this material. Sometimes it’s real, sometimes imaginary, maybe a funny thing I saw, a cultural reflection, or even a youthful memory. I enjoy how the work makes viewers feel and what it makes them think about.

I have been fortunate to have my work featured in two exhibits at the Pflugerville Public Library, and recently, a piece included in the “I Am An Artist” exhibit at the Downtowner Gallery in Round Rock.
I think art makes people happy and I look forward to continuing this learning journey so I might contribute in a positive way.
